Seed szerver Bemutatók Feralhosting.com

It's great to have a 3TB dedicated disk and SSH, but it seams to me that the hardware is too weak to handle all the users. Using Deluge can mask this problem, but it is still there and a little bit disappointing for a 60 Pound shared seedbox. This is a price range other providers offer dedicated hardware, instead of putting you on the same server with 30 hard drives and over 100 other users. They should provide better performance for the expensive seedboxes instead of putting you on the same hardware as users with cheap slots. If I would use a $20 box, the performance would be ok, but it's not acceptable for a $93 seedbox.
The hardware is fine (well cpu is a bit weak, but more than enough cores, total CPU usage is low), the problem is in OS/driver layers. Linux + torrents (deluge, rtorrent, etc) works OK with even 12 disks, but beyond about 8 you really start to see issues with the Linux IO scheduler, so by the time you get to 20-30 disks and 100-150+ torrent programs all using massive disk IO... well it all falls over. It isn't that linux cannot handle the IOPS, SSD after all will do more IOPS on 2xSSD than 24xSATA, but... well anyway its technical.

You might find the following script useful for telling you what is going on on the server:
rtorrentcount=`ps aux |grep '/opt/rtorrent/current/bin/rtorrent' | wc -l`; \
delugecount=`ps -A |grep deluged | wc -l`; \
transcount=`ps -A |grep trans | wc -l`; \
echo -e "\nUsers(pending-deletion): `cat /etc/passwd | grep media | wc -l` (`cat /etc/passwd | grep media | grep false | wc -l`)"; \
echo "Disks: `df -h | grep "\/media\/" | wc -l`"; \
echo "rTorrent running: $rtorrentcount"; \
echo "Deluge running: $delugecount"; \
echo "Transmission running: $transcount"; \
echo "Total: `expr $rtorrentcount + $delugecount + $transcount`"
Outputs like:
Users(pending-deletion): 114 (6)
Disks: 23
rTorrent running: 63
Deluge running: 58
Transmission running: 11
Total: 132

Name:Feralhosting.com
Speed Down:10Gbps - have seen a max of 90MB/s on 1 torrent, 300MB/s between a few torrents
Speed Up:505Mbps - have seen a max of 60MB/s on 1 torrent
Storage:400GB and 2TB upload traffic
Support: 9/10.
  • Had issues with rTorrent port being used by someone else, and they responded and fixed it within 30 min.
  • Had another problem about ruTorrent loading slow and getting a massive amount of "bad response from server" errors and they responded with "it is rTorrent/ruTorrent's fault and they cannot fix it" and recommend using Deluge.
GUI: 9/10. Using ruTorrent and it's
missing useful plugins like the unpack plugin. This can be easily added but would have expected feral to include all the official plugins.
Speed of GUI:10/10 after fix
Package:Helium
Price:?10/month or about 15.21 USD
Overall rating: 9/10.

  • Had to re-install ruTorrent and rTorrent manually because I was getting those "bad response from server" errors which were severely affecting ruTorrent loading times, taking 20 sec for it to load. Now ruTorrent loads within 2-3 secs and haven't seen an error or rTorrent crash yet.
  • Overall, Feralhosting is great: their support is what you would expect from a company, connection speed is very fast, and their plans are economical. They are also non-OVH using Cogent network, which is a plus. They have a very resourceful WIKI and helpful IRC community. I highly recommend Feralhosting to anyone looking for a seedbox!

How can support be 9/10 (almost perfect) if they are unable to fix a major problem and you have to do it yourself? And this is the support you "expect from a company"?

Speed Down:10Gbps -have seen a max of 110MB/s on 1 torrent, and 800MB/s overall
Speed Up:505Mbps - have seen a max of 90MB/s on 1 torrent, and 300MB/s overall
These speeds are off, how could you get 90MB/s on 1 torrent or 300MB/s overall speed when the server only has a 505Mbps connection, meaning that the max upload speed would be around 55-60MB/s at max??
Am I missing something here?
