General Discussion Male birth control

Why take a pill and expose yourself to that kind of medication ?Just wear a freaking condom
Yeah, I have to agree with you on this. My thoughts on this are fourfold:

1. If you aren't in a relationship with the person, you should be wearing a condom just to protect against STDs.
2. If you are in a relationship, then there are plenty of ways of keeping from getting pregnant, male birth control pills aren't as necessary as "the pill" was when it was introduced.
3. Female birth control serves a purpose outside of pregnancy prevention (they help control/regulate periods in many women). Male pills wouldn't have the same off-label use.
4. My biggest worry is that a male pill could have quite adverse reactions. It takes DECADES to determine what the real effects of something like this could be on a male during his most fertile/highest hormone phase of his life.

Think about stuff like Androsteine. It was thought to be perfectly safe to use as a supplement, and was even allowed in many professional sports. Then, after decades of using, people started noticing it had the same long term side effects as anabolic steroids.

Anyhoo, just my $0.02, I wouldn't ever use it, but then again, I know how to pull out.

The Depo-Pervara shot is substantially different from the pill- because it lasts so long, the dose is higher, and it's progesterone only, etc. Many woman find it too intense, and that it messes with their mood....it's why more aren't on it, despite it being so much easier than remembering a pill every day. That's unfortunate though, black_coffee, and I'm sure pretty tough for the both of you.
It was, but it was years ago. We just had the last kid we plan on having and I may end up just having the snip.

Of course I would use it but only if there are no hormonal changes. I don't like stuff that messes with my mind or body.
The neat thing is the male contraception which pretty much definitely not affect hormones. Hormones can be adjusted (somewhat) easily in females to affect fertility because this is what happens physiologically. But because males are always fertile, the hormone changes would have to be super drastic to cut fertility, so I doubt that'd ever happen.

The vasalgel stuff is an example of a mechanical solution. What would you think of that? http://www.wired.com/magazine/2011/04/ff_vasectomy/all/1

I'm sure other ways will be developed too, using chemical or biochemical approaches. Exciting times, if these things ever get off the ground.

Depends on what the effects are I suppose. If it's not too serious then I would consider a temporary dosage.

I think they're working on male birth control pills now. What they should do is make a double pill, half birth control and half something like Viagra. Guys will jump all over it then lol

Seriously, I think in a committed relationship both the man and woman should be equally responsible. Unfortunately, it's the female who is always the one ending up pregnant :). I'm not being sexist. I'm just saying if they don't want a baby, they can use condoms or the pill or a IUD, whatever. SHE better make sure someone is using something though. Too many guys don't think about it and suddenly learn how fast they can run when faced with being responsible for a chld.
